DIY Oscar party

I will admit that one of my favorite times of year is Awards Season. I am a junkie and always watch, and then call my sister the next morning and we spend hours talking about all the good and bad. It is so much fun! When I saw these awesome invites and popcorn bags I had to let everyone else in on the fun. Check them out at Twig and Thistle.

flower necklace

After seeing necklaces all over the place made from fabric and beads. I finally took the time to make one for myself. I made it yesterday and wore it today :) This project is as simple as buying a long string of beads from the store and hot glue gunning (is that a word?) some fabric flowers to them. So easy!! Mine took a little longer because my beads were from another necklace that I cut, restrung and added the metal chain to extend the length. However, without this added step this projects could be done in 30 minutes or less.

Step 1: Get on the internet and find a tutorial for a fabric flower. I used this technique that I had seen awhile back on Once Wed for one of my flowers. The other flower I did was a simple rolled fabric rose found here at Everyday Chaos.

Step 2: Attach your flowers to the necklace using felt circles and a glue gun. See the picture below.

Step 3: Wear your beautiful necklace and love it!

lemon lime cupcakes

I made these yesterday and just about died at how yummy they tasted. Melted right in my mouth. I saw the recipe on Studio 5 a few weeks ago and knew the second I saw them I had to have them. They took a little longer than the average cupcake because of the zesting, but it was worth it.
I used this recipe for the batter.
And this recipe for the frosting.

If you love lemon bars you will love these.

a branch of whimsy

This last week we were all sick and forced to stay at home, so...we decided to make the most of it by making some fun crafts. One of the fun projects we did was this cute little whimsical branch to hang in my daughters room. Easiest and most inexpensive project ever and the smile on my daughters face when she saw it was priceless.

What you need:
tree branch
scrapbook paper
scissors
glue dots
yarn
butterfly template (or butterfly punch if you have that)

First I printed off this butterfly template. Traced and cut out butterflies of both sizes. Then I took my yarn and made a few pom poms using tutorials found here. Then using my glue dots I placed the butterflies on the branch in a cute pattern and tied the yarn pom poms on the branch. Lastly, I traced and cut out a few leaves from my scrapbook paper and placed on branch using glue dots.
How perfect of a decoration for any little girls room.

pocket valentines

When trying to figure out what Valentine cards my daughter was going to bring to her preschool friends I found out two things...1) she wanted to make the valentines herself and 2) she wanted to include a picture of herself. This is what we came up with. (Above is all of our materials)

Because they have pockets you can add all kinds of little goddies. Including the Valentines that Ellie made for all of her friends and the picture of herself.

embroidery hoop art

Now I know that this is nothing inventive but I wanted to share my latest wall art with everyone. I also wanted to brag on the total price...ready for it...$7.00!! I got all the hoops at the thrift store and instead of using fabric I used scrapbook paper, which happened to be on sale.

I look at this and I just feel happy!

Love, Love, Love this idea for a Valentine's gift for my hubby. I originally saw this on UCreate, but it's from the blog Nap Time Journal. I agree with what she says...."The way to a guy's heart is through his stomach!" True for my hubby!! =) Not to mention I get the fun job of drinking all the cream soda!! Yum!!
